Last week in the riding….

Scott welcomed Papineau MP Justin Trudeau to Kings-Hants last Friday.  The Hockey Heritage Centre in Windsor, Birthplace of Hockey, was their first stop where Windsor Mayor Paul Beazley explained the extensive displays.

The Hants Journal reported on the visit in the paper this week:

He’s long and lean and passionate about politics.  Justin Trudeau, Liberal MP for the riding of Papineau, Montreal and the son of the late Pierre Elliot Trudeau turned a few heads during a surprise visit to Windsor Friday, June 18.

Trudeau was the special guest of Kings-Hants MP Scott Brison who couldn’t resist showing off his home riding, which included the Windsor Hockey Heritage Museum, where they met up with Mayor, Paul Beazley and Richard Cole, vice-president of the West Hants Chamber of Commerce and Tommy Guns proprietor.

The hockey enthusiast marveled at many of the museums displays but still had time to talk politics. When asked what prompted the visit Trudeau said members of the liberal party are taking every opportunity to connect with Canadians.  “It’s about being accessible and offering a fresh voice and perspective,” he said.

Following the visit to the hockey museum the pair had lunch at the Spitfire Arms and then traveled to Grand Pre for a tour of Domaine de Grand Pre and then a visit to Grand Pre National Historic Site. At the site Peter Herbin explained the process for the UNESCO World Heritage application that will be submitted in early 2011.

It was then off to Wolfville for a visit to L’Arche Homefires and then to speak at the opening ceremonies of the Nova Scotia Special Olympics.

In the evening, Mr. Trudeau spoke at a fundraising reception for the Kings-Hants Liberal Association at Muir Murray Estate Winery in Lower Wolfville.

In the news….

Parliament breaks for summer recess

The Enfield Weekly Press reported on the end of the parliamentary session in a news story this week. In the article Scott said:

And yet, said Brison, the government is still at its core dysfunctional.  “This Parliament started with prorogation and ended with fake lake,” he said. “It started with a prime minister with no respect for Parliament and ended with a prime minister with no respect for taxpayers. It was the most sulphuric Parliament I’ve ever been a part of, and I’ve been elected five times.”

Hants East Sportsplex Expansion

Scott was at the Hants East Sportsplex on June 13 for the announcement of $3 million in federal funding for the $13 million expansion of the facility. Scott was thrilled to see years of hard work by the community finally pay off.  Construction is scheduled to commence immediately.

The Enfield Weekly Press editorial said:

Lost in the announcement was that Kings-Hants Liberal MP Scott Brison played a large part in fighting for the project. While Armstrong made the announcement, he didn’t have as big an impact as Brison and others who lobbied for the government funding did.
